An often-overlooked trek in Himachal Pradesh, seemingly obscure and lost amid modern development, the Khauli Pass Trek paradoxically remains untouched, preserving its original splendor. Lush greenery, vibrant wildflowers, and stunning trees still thrive along the trail, creating a vivid and timeless landscape. Contrasts abound: serene walks along the Hurla Nala lead to sweeping panoramic views of Hanuman Tibba, Friendship Peak, and Indrasan. Vast stretches of snow-covered terrain, present throughout the year, add a dramatic backdrop to this hidden Himalayan gem.
Trek Itinerary of Khauli Pass Trek
Day 1 Kullu to Kasol to Grahan 10 Km Trek.
Start at 9:15 AM with transport available and enjoy a delicious breakfast at Kasol before beginning our trek through dense forest to our campsite, Grahan. 10 km away lies Garahan Nala, where there will be unpaved pathways leading up to it and then onto Garahan for camping. The trek steadily ascends through Grahan village’s pine forest to an elevation of 10 kilometers, passing through coniferous woods filled with rhododendrons before leading through tall oak and pine trees onto its final destination: an uninhabited campsite covered with snow throughout the year. Participants can arrive in Kasol on the day before beginning a trek, and arrange to stay at one of several accommodations that may be reserved directly by calling. Kasol is easily reachable from Kullu in southern India via shuttle bus or shared taxi and offers an unforgettable cultural experience thanks to its beautiful riverside setting, diverse language offerings, and laidback vibe.
Day 2 Gahan to Padari 7 kms trek
After breakfast, we set off towards Padari – our destination of the day. As it’s a relatively short distance this morning, the journey should be far less tiring. Starting with a leisurely trek up Garahan Nala until reaching Padri campsite located in a beautiful meadow, after lunch, arriving to find ourselves surrounded by tiny streams, waterfalls, blooming blooms & beautiful alpine meadow at an elevation of 2820m!
Day 3 Padri – Khauli Pass 8 Kms trek – Padri
Today’s destination is the challenging Khauli pass that requires an intense ascent. Climbing this mountain in May can become especially arduous due to soft snowfall; therefore, we must begin early morning. The initial part of this trek passes through a dense woodland filled with Birch trees, commonly referred to in this region as Bhoj patras. At its end is beautiful, even though the vivid blossoms that fill it only after the rainy season become visible. Between May and June, the entire stretch becomes covered with snowfall; Indersen, Friendship, Indersen Peaks can be seen far in the distance towards Manali, while to its left are majestic mountains that form Bhara Shigri Glacier, including Paapsura Dharam sura White Sails can also be seen.
Day 4 Padri – Kasol – Kullu 15 kms trek
Our day begins with a trek downhill on Grahanol where we cross over into Bhunter. Once there, the group will enjoy lunch, which was packed for them shortly before reaching our starting point, before embarking on our 32-kilometer vehicle ride back towards Kullu.

How To Reach Khauli Pass Trek
By Road: Overnight buses run between Delhi, Chandigarh, Pathankot, and Chamba Town. Thereafter, taxi/bus services will take passengers further.
By Train: Pathankot (which takes approximately 6-7 hours driving time).
By Air: Kangra (Gaggal) Airport is closest, and driving time from there to Chamba will take 6 hours.
Best Time to Visit Khauli Pass Trek
Khauli Pass Trek should be visited between mid-June and late September when snow has melted, treks are open, and alpine landscapes are at their most vibrant.
