Dudhsagar Falls are India’s highest waterfalls and cascade an impressive 310 meters down. Reaching this natural marvel requires journeying through lush forest on an unconventional trail that doubles as a railway line, offering breathtaking vistas along its 11-kilometer trek from Castle Rock Railway Station in the Goa-Karnataka border region along the Western Ghats, an important biodiversity hotspot, to arrive. Starting from Castle Rock Railway Station, Dudhsagar can be reached after following the train tracks for 11 kilometres along a unique trail doubling as a railway line while passing through tunnels up to 2.5 kilometres long! The Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary can be seen from the railway tracks, providing an amazing perspective of its diverse plant and animal life. Trekking through dense forests with seasonal waterfalls is both enjoyable and thrilling; their sound grows louder as you traverse through the tranquil jungle. When arriving at the falls, be amazed as water cascades from a height of 310 meters! A combination of flowing water, rocks surrounding, and lush greenery creates a picture-perfect scene. Typical journey time to reach the falls takes 7 hours, with accommodations available at Dudhsagar Station for those wanting to camp out.

Trek Itinerary of Dudhsagar Falls Trek

Day 1 – Departure from Mumbai or Pune

On your first day of trekking with Trekup India, representatives will collect you either in Mumbai or Pune and transport you by taxi directly to a railway station for an afternoon arrival, where other participants from Pune or Mumbai have joined. At that station, wait for others before boarding an overnight train journey towards Kulem.

Day 2: Visit Dudhsagar waterfall and same day

Begin your adventure early morning at Kulem Railway Station for your trek to Dudhsagar waterfalls, having breakfast first to prepare yourself. Trek through dense forest and railway tracks until reaching Dudhsagar waterfalls with their magnificent flow of water and rock-formed pool. On your return from Dudhsagar waterfalls, pass through Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, where you may spot various forms of wildlife, before returning by 2 pm to Kulem railway station for your return train.

How To Reach Dudhsagar Falls Trek

Base Point: Kulem (Goa) or Castle Rock (Karnataka).

By Rail: Train Service to Kulem (South Western Railway).

From Madgaon and Belagavi, Hubli can easily be reached. Castle Rock serves as a railhead along this route.

By Road: Kulem is situated 60 kilometres southwest of Panaji and 30km away from Madgaon, respectively. Taxis or buses are available from Panaji and Margao to Kulem.

By Air: For flights coming directly into Kulem from Goa International Airport at Dabolim (70km from Kulem).

Best Time to Visit Dudhsagar Falls Trek

This trek can be completed between June and December, with monsoon season offering waterfalls at their most magnificent and lushness of forests at their most vibrant. However, due to high water levels during these months, extra caution must be taken for a safe journey. November through December offer more serene landscapes with lower water levels, which is an excellent time for beginners.
