Although many avoid trekking during this season, the author was intrigued when his friend suggested trying it himself. After initially being reluctant, further research revealed the unique charms of monsoon treks; contrary to popular belief, they were not only possible but beautiful, as snow melt at higher altitudes revealed vibrant landscapes for the trekking experience. With careful preparation and selection of trails, August can be an exceptional time to discover the Himalayas.

Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib Trek

Valley of Flowers is one of the Himalayan Mountains’ most stunning sights to see during monsoon season and one of its most beloved trekking routes during monsoon season. Situated in Chamoli area in India’s National Park system, the Valley of Flowers boasts breathtaking meadows and unique species of flora that come alive during this breathtaking trek. The monsoon season sees numerous exotic species of flowers blossom in this valley and create an ever-evolving canvas-like scene. Although trekking this valley can be enjoyed from June until September, August is often considered to be the ideal time, as heavy rainfall has rendered its terrain especially lush and green. One reason the trek is so popular is that the Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara at 15,100 feet above sea level is so iconic; thousands visit every year! Additionally, this trek doesn’t involve strenuous exercise; even beginners can complete it successfully.

Many would describe the Pin Parvati Pass Trek as being difficult, even for experienced trekkers. You will ascend an elevation of 17450 feet or more and pass through dense deodar and pine forests, along with pine and fir trees. Treks may begin in Manali, however, the adventure starts much earlier in Pulga village. Walking through various towns allows participants to meet people and discover their customs and lifestyles. Tunda Bhuj Thakur Kuan, Odi Thach, Mantalai Tiya, and Mud are some of the overnight stops on this trek. There are also opportunities to camp along one of the banks of Pin River if desired. As you journey across this spectacular landscape of snow-capped mountains and stunning valleys, you won’t fail to be amazed.

August is the best month for doing the journey. Bhrigu Lake Trek begins from Rumsu Base Camp for a four-day trek that begins with water pouring down from above, enriching all areas that it touches. Monsoon-like cold winds may add chilliness to the air. On this trek, there will be many chances to explore various attractions. Some notable landmarks to see on your itinerary include Gauri Shankar Temple, Tripura Sundari Temple, and Naggar Castle. It also allows you to visit the Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery, home to works created by this celebrated Russian artist, author, and archaeologist. Rated as moderate to easy and easy-moderate difficulty levels, this Bhrigu Lake Trek ascends to an altitude of less than 14000 feet.
