The Spituk Trek, more commonly referred to as the Spituk to Stok Trek in Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir, is an attractive short trek, perfect for novice and intermediate trekkers wishing to experience its striking charm of trans-Himalayan terrain. Starting from Spituk Monastery close to Leh, this trek winds its way along the Stok Range, providing stunning views of arid valleys, vibrant mountains, Buddhist traditions, and snow-covered summits. Recognized for its accessibility and breathtaking panoramic views of Ladakh and the Zanskar Ranges, this trek is an attractive option for outdoor enthusiasts. Lasting 3 to 5 days, it provides a wonderful chance to explore Ladakh’s natural beauty and cultural traditions as you become acquainted with its culture and natural environment. It serves as an excellent introductory trek before venturing on more expansive journeys such as the Markha Valley or Stok Kangri treks. Ladakh, India, is renowned for its scenic treks. These day-long excursions provide trekkers of all skill levels a manageable day-long adventure suitable for everyone from novice to expert trekkers. Beginning from Spituk Village just 8 kilometres outside Leh, trekkers are treated to incredible views of Stok Kangri – a towering peak in the Stok Range – as they journey across rugged terrain characterized by dramatic vistas, barren mountains, and unspoiled wilderness.

Trek Itinerary of Spituk Trek

Day 1: Departure from Leh, Drive to Spituk

Take time to take in the breathtaking panorama of mountains and valleys as you journey. Finally arrive in Zingchen where you will spend the night as planned.

Day 2: Rumbak – Stokla – Camp Site

Your journey will take you towards Stok La Pass, an alpine pass situated at a great altitude. Once there, follow the trek until reaching your campsite for the night.

Day 3: Camp Site – Stok – Leh

Begin your adventure from your campsite by following the winding trek to Stok Village, situated in a valley below the pass. Stop for lunch in Stok before returning to Leh by car.

How To Reach Spituk Trek

By air: For flights arriving by air from India cities such as Delhi or other places nearby, Leh is home to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport with daily services from various points across India.

By Road: Leh is accessible by road via Manali-Leh Highway and Srinagar-Leh Highway, both open from June through October. Transport Options from Leh: Spituk can be reached quickly and conveniently from Leh via taxi or shared vehicle.

Best Time to Visit Spituk Trek

From June to September is typically the most pleasant season, offering sunny days, clear skies, and easy access to routes. From late May through early October is an appropriate period, while July-August brings lush greenery post monsoon in dry regions.
