Secluded within Arunachal Pradesh lies an exquisite gem: the Seven Lakes Trek is waiting to be explored! Explore its mysterious valleys to uncover unexpected delights as you make your way towards an astounding 3,927M elevation, where a spectacular array of lakes nourished by glaciers will unfold before your very eyes. Along the way, you will pass lush forests filled with medicinal herbs, rare tree species, wildflowers (including orchids!), and eventually arrive at high-altitude lakes that await. This trek through Dibang Valley in Northeast India provides an unrivalled and unforgettable experience. Home to Idu Mishmi tribe members known worldwide for their harmonious relationship with nature and dependence upon forests for medicinal uses as well as daily necessities, these lush green hills of Dibang offer breathtaking scenery for trekking enthusiasts looking for an exciting and unconventional trek experience. If any further inquiries arise during our trek, we will stay overnight in one of their traditional dwellings along the trek, allowing for direct engagement between participants and tribe members!

Birdwatchers will delight in this region, which boasts species such as monal, blood pheasant and Mishmi takin; surrounding lakes provide ample opportunities to spot an assortment of wild mushrooms that are safe to consume; trekking uphill through steep inclines to elevations of 3,927M offers breathtaking views into Arunachal Pradesh’s natural splendour – however due to physical requirements it is advised that participants have prior experience trekking at high-altitude levels before beginning this adventure between October and April.

Trek Itinerary of Seven Lakes Trek

Day 1

Arrive in Dibrugarh (108M)

Your journey begins in Dibrugarh, one of the largest cities in Northeast India. Conveniently, Dibrugarh boasts its domestic airport, Mohanbari Airport, just 15 kilometres from its centre, and receives flights from major hubs such as Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi. Furthermore, Dibrugarh is well connected by train and road, making it easily accessible from various parts of India.

Day 2

Dibrugarh (108M) to Roing (390M)

As we travel by car for 150 km into Arunachal Pradesh, taking approximately four to five hours, we’ll pass by picturesque tea plantations of upper Assam, then enjoy a boat ride along the Lohit River before arriving at Roing, where we will set up camp for the night and start a trekking adventure.

Day 3

Roing (390M) to Anini (1,970M)

Beginning our journey from Roing to Anini begins with a breathtaking 230km drive through Debang Valley and across Mayodia Pass – an excellent introduction to what lies in store during this adventure! As we ascend higher elevations, remember to prioritize your well-being by dressing in layers according to climate fluctuations and prioritising restful sleep as much as possible.

Day 4

Anini (1,970M) to Imungu to Jungle Camp 1 (2,500M)

At Imangu, our 25-kilometer car journey reaches its endpoint accessible by vehicle on this route. Here begins our trekking adventure, offering us an idyllic preview of what lies in store over the coming days and weeks. Starting with a gentle climb up lush, emerald-green hills of Imangu Valley before strolling through an idyllic fern forest on our way to our overnight campsite, this trek culminates with us pitching camp for the night!

Day 5

Jungle Camp 1 (2,500M) to Jungle Camp 2 (3,400M)

Today will see us ascend a significant increase in elevation. We will trek through the dense forests of Mishimi hills, climbing 900 meters. Here, it is ideal for witnessing lush vegetation and unique bird species native to this region. When we come upon an even level clearing that appears fairly level, that signifies our campsite location.

Day 6

Jungle Camp 2 (3,400M) to Lake Kamo Uyea (3,730M)

Today, we move beyond the treeline and discover Lake Kamo Uyea – our inaugural lake on this journey. After leaving high-altitude forests behind us, we travel over mountain ridges until reaching it, eventually arriving at this oasis surrounded by rolling terrain, setting up camp at its edge for the night.

Day 7

Camp Lake Kamo Uyea (3,730M)

After six days of ascending, today is a welcome respite. We begin exploring six more lakes: Emu Uyea, Chenni Uyea, Dinni Uyea, Huhu Uyea, Assy Uyea and Achanga Uyea – each lake’s breathtaking scenery attesting to their unspoiled natural beauty is clear as we traverse them en route back to our lakeside campsite and back downhill journey!

Day 8

Lake Kamo Uyea (3,730M) to Inguli (1,550M)

Today, we embark on an unforgettable adventure, following in the footsteps of the Idu Mishmi tribe as we trek along ancient pathways and descend a precipitous cliffside, traversing pine-covered bridges, and crossing rivers. A highlight of our journey will be spending the night at an Idu Mishmi dwelling where we experience their warm hospitality – truly remarkable!

Day 9

Inguli (1,550M) to Mele to Anini (1,970M)

Today, we embark on a short journey, heading toward Mele Village. After our visit to Mele, we will return by car to Anini for the night.

Day 10

Anini (1,970M) to Roing (390M) 

Today, we cover an approximate distance of 230km and end our trip in Roing, where we will spend the night.

Day 11

Roing to Dibrugarh

Today’s journey covers 150 km, taking us back full circle towards Dibrugarh, where we started from. We should arrive around late evening and spend the night there.

Day 12

Depart from Dibrugarh

After an amazing 11-day stay, it is now time to say farewell! We wish all our visitors safe travels on their next adventures.

How To Reach Seven Lakes Trek

By Air: Dibrugarh Airport in Assam is located nearby. From Dibrugarh, travel towards Roing and then drive onward to Anini (2-day trip).

By Road: Dibrugarh to Tinsukia via Hunli and Anini (approx. 350kms, two days’ journey on rough mountain roads). As this road is scenic but rough, we recommend 4×4 vehicles as the optimal mode of transport.

By Train: Tinsukia Railway Station in Assam is the closest station, well connected with Guwahati and Kolkata.

Best Time to Visit Seven Lakes Trek

From Late June to Early October. Within this window, when lakes are open and snow-free. Wildflowers are in full bloom, and the weather is ideal for trekking.
