Conquer the Majestic Stok Kangri – One of India’s Highest Treks
The Stok Kangri trek begins in Leh, where trekkers begin acclimatizing. Leh is easily accessible by either air or road travel; air travellers from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Manali often make use of flights. Traveling on roads, however, is much longer but rewarding due to incredible views; unfortunately, due to harsh winter weather and snowfall, it can only be done during the summertime. At an altitude of 20,180 feet, the Stok Kangri trek is known for its exciting thrills. From its perch, you can witness stunning views of Tibet towards the east and the grand Himalayan range towards the south, all while continuing your trek towards Khardung La pass’s staggering height of 18372 feet! Your adventure starts in Leh and culminates with this unforgettable trip.
At approximately 15km away from Leh, Leh’s base camp is truly an impressive destination. Trekking on this challenging path requires both physical and mental stamina, making it the ideal spot for training those who climb at higher altitudes. Furthermore, its picturesque setting makes an ideal campsite for trekkers establishing camps; nearby valleys contain stunning meadows often covered with snow as well as flowing streams due to the moraine that forms part of Gulap Glacier, making Gulap Glacier an irreplaceable part of Leh’s landscape. Start planning for an incredible adventure today – but remember to do it the right way! In Stok Kangri, temperatures may dip well below freezing due to its extremely high altitude; therefore, the ideal time and climate to trek would be from July to September, when conditions are more comfortable. Between October and November is an ideal time for adventure-minded trekkers seeking to test themselves. However, note that trekking isn’t permitted during other seasons due to closed trails between Leh and Ladakh. Temperatures during July and September ranged between 20 °C and 15 °C during the daytime hours and 7degC-2 °C Celsius at nighttime, before slowly declining through October to November to 15degC-10degC during daytime hours and 5degC-5degC overnight temperatures respectively.
