A ridge is in which two sides of the mountain come together. Therefore, walking on an ridge is similar to the walk on a knife-edge in which there are only sides of the mountain that drop down each side. There are some ridge sections in a few Himalayan treks. But, having an entire day of trekking along a ridge is an experience that is unmatched. If you’ve completed a climb to the summit you’ll know that you’re at the highest place for around 20-30 minutes. From this point, you have a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. While on this trek you’re standing at a high altitude of 12,000 feet for the an entire day’s trek(4-5 hours! ).

The stunning 250-degree view of mountains that are covered in snow will be all the way! It gives you the impression that the mountains are traveling with you when you travel along the ridge that cuts in the landscape. In front of you, the ground is swept down the opposite side, one of them into a meadow, the other into the valley. This is the thing that is unique about Phulara Ridge a unique experience.

Where is Phulara Ridge?

Phulara Ridge is located towards the north-east of Uttarakhand just 25 km from the border with Himachal Pradesh. It’s a high-altitude trek that has a maximum elevation of 12,171 feet. It’s located within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park. It is close to other well-known treks such as Kedarkantha and Har Ki Dun Ruinsara Tal.

It is believed that the Phulara Ridge trek starts from and finishes at Sankari. The geographic place that lies on Phulara Ridge gives it an unjust advantages over others treks. It’s located within the area’s shadow, which means the sun’s rays don’t strike the area directly. This means that the snow on the trails lasts longer, and sometimes even into spring. This is not a common occurrence for a trail that is with a lower elevation than 13,000 feet.

Why You Should Do Phulara Ridge Trek?

1. Pushtara meadows

After you have walked down the ridge and you are within The Pushtara meadows. The sheer size of the meadows will awe you. The folds and folds of carpeted green hills extend to as far as your eyes can reach. Wildflowers bloom in all their splendor. There is a 360-degree view of mountains covered in snow. Then you realize that this is the place you’ll be camping! We’d even go so in the direction of calling it our camp site during the whole year.

2. The forest

If you are only going for a short walk the forest that lie on Phulara Ridge is extremely dense. It is so dense that just streams of light coming through the forest’s dark abyss will illuminate your way. In addition, due to the inactivity of the residents, you will find areas that aren’t marked with trails. Because the forest isn’t frequently walked upon and you’re likely to be the only person walking the trail. Therefore, all the chirps, the chirps of birds, the rustles of trees they all become magnified by the silence. There are many varieties of trees, including pines, oaks and oaks. You can also see silver birches, dwarf rhododendrons and maples. Forest walks are an absolute delight to observe and Phulara is the most remote of them all.

3. The bird

The dense forest of Phulara will be awed by the abundance of wildlife and birds. Our explorers spotted 11 Himalayan monals! This bird of state of Uttarakhand is not easy to spot and is among the most colorful birds we’ve seen. It’s a treat to see even one – not even 11. Our explorers also saw barbets, woodpeckers and Himalayan Whistling Thoroughfares and Drogos.

Best Time To Do The Phulara Ridge Trek

The best time to take this Phulara Ridge trek would be during the summer months between June and May. The gradual transformation of the path from snow to green is a sight to behold. The combination of the blossoming Rhododendrons, the chance of seeing the unique alpenglow phenomenon as well as the colorful meadows of Pushtara makes it one of the most ideal occasions to go on a trek.

Another time to take on Phulara Ridge is during the monsoon season. Phulara Ridge trek is in the monsoon postponement season, which runs from September through November. The trails are lush green in September freshly spruced up from monsoon rains. As you progress towards autumn, the landscape shifts hues, transforming into stunning shades of oranges and yellows. Also, you’ll get some of the most spectacular views of mountains during this time of year.

  • Time taken: 4 hours
  • Trek gradient: Easy-moderate. All along the ascending trail.
  • Water sources: A stream located near the bridge about an hour into the hike.

It takes about 30 minutes to ascend from Sikolta through the forest patch. The forest is dense and dark. Pay attention to the few fallen trees along the trail. A bridge can be seen at the end of the trail. There is a short descent to the bridge and a steep ascent through a narrow section of the landslide terrain. This section measures approximately 100 meters.

You can refill water by filling the stream that runs underneath the bridge. The stream and bridge separate the valley. Continue climbing for 15 minutes to reach the larger Karsu Thatch clearing. The grass is full of yellow flowers. You will see the Kedarkantha peak as you enter the big clearing. From here, you can see the gradual decline in the tree line. After the monsoon, the flowers begin to bloom. You will see the clearings open up, and then you can enter the lush green meadows. Walking on the green cover is a treat for your legs and eyes.

The highest point on this hill is the Dhunda Top. After a gentle climb of 15 minutes and another trek for 10 minutes to the left, the trail leads you into a beautiful meadow. This is your campsite. The stream runs down the valley. This is your water source. You can go for an excursion/acclimatization walk to the top of the hill. A long ridge runs up to the top, which can lead you down to Kedarkantha. You can see the Purola region, Swargarohini and Devkyara, Lekha Top, Vijay Top, and other peaks from here. This campsite is the perfect spot to catch beautiful sunsets and sunrises.

Day 4: Bhoj Gadi to Pushtara via Phulara ridge

  • Altitude: 11.115 ft (3.400 m), to 9.500 ft (2.896 m), via 12,127ft (3.696 m),
  • Time taken: 6 hours
  • Trek gradient: Easy-moderate. Follow the trail to the summit. Flat trail to the ridge, followed by a descent down to the Pushtara.
  • Water sources: None At least 2 litres of water should be carried from Bhoj Gadi

From the campsite, you can see the top of the ridge. The climb is pleasant to begin the day. The climb to the summit of the ridge takes approximately 45 minutes. This trail can be used to spot many Himalayan Monals. On this day, I could see seven Monals as I approached the ridge. It is a stunning view from the ridge. The 250-degree view of the snow-peaked mountains. The trail ends at the beautiful ridge. There are slight ascents that you can see. You can feel the snow-capped mountains moving with you as you trek.

After another hour of hiking, you reach the end of the trail. Here it turns right. You will feel as if you have a grand entrance to the magnificent view, with few stones along the way. From right to left, the peaks are Hanuman Top and Sarutal Top. From this point, take the right. At the top, you can catch an intermittent signal from Vodafone. There are many ascents and descents you can take. Cross the base of Sarutal.
You will be descending a little bit and then gradually ascending. The drop is to the right. The valley of Purola can be seen in the distance between the tall pines. Because of the snow, this section cannot take during winter months. Also, this section does not have any water sources. It is difficult and tricky to cross the snow section in April. With snow, it took approximately an hour and fifty minutes. It would have taken about 30 minutes without snow to complete the Sarutal section. This section is home to Monals and wildflowers.

You will enter the right-hand side of the hill once you have crossed this valley. There are a few big mountains in front of you. Continue to your right as you descend. The vastness of Pushtara meadows will amaze you. It is a great spot to put up your camp.
Taloti is found in the valley if you cross it. The melting glaciers have created a beautiful lake of medium size. Pushtara is a large lake with much water on its right side. The Gujjars have a small graveyard that gives the bones a chill. It is a great place to tell stories and spend the night.

Day 5: Pushtara to Taluka. Drive to Sankari

  • Altitude: 9,500ft (2.896 m) to 7,953ft (2.424 m),
  • Time taken: 5 hour trek and then 1-hour drive to Sankari
  • Trek gradient: Easy-moderate. Continue to Taluka by ascending the trail.
  • Water sources You will find a stream about 1.5 hours before entering the forest.

It would take you to Taluka. You will descend through the meadows for the first 30 minutes. Here you will see broken Gujjar huts. The trail is visible to the right coming from Taloti Valley. Continue to descend and follow this trail. Continue to descend and continue going towards the right. The tree line begins to rise. The floor is covered with yellow flowers. It’s like a bed where you can just lie down.

Continue your descent for 30 minutes, and you will reach the forest. There are good trails that lead into the forest. It is large and easy to lose your way if you wander off-trail. The cover is well-lit, and the trees are spread out. Later, you will be surrounded by huge pine trees. It seems like you are a tiny person trekking through the forest. Crossing trees that have fallen on the ground is necessary. During your trek, a group of curious langurs watches you and follows you as they leap effortlessly from one tree to the next.

You will see a small village to your right. Keep an eye on the right. This will not take you to the village but assures you of following the trail. This forest is a beautiful place to descend for approximately an hour and thirty minutes. You hear very few bells as you reach the last stretch of dense, uncut forest. A herd of goats and cows are grazing in the forest. There is also very little logging activity, indicating you are near civilization.

If you continue on the same trail, you will see a path and a pipe that collects water from the stream. You will see a large water tank and wooden huts with stone roofing. This is Tumrikot. You will reach the end of your trek after walking for about 30 minutes through a beautiful village. A few shops can be found in the small village of Taluka. The Har Ki Dun trail can be marked
