Explore Kalavantin Durg: Scenic & Adventurous Trek in Maharashtra

With a height of 672 meters, it is a mighty mountain, Kalavantin Durg is a very sought-after trek destination located in Maharashtra which is located within the Raigad district. Although it's frequently portrayed as an intimidating challenge because of its soaring climb to the pinnacle, which may seem intimidating on photos however, by taking the proper precautions and paying attention to the right precautions, it's thrilling and create an impression.

The trail begins from Thakurwadi which is located about 50 kilometers away from Mumbai.

Kalavin Durg Trek

The Kalavin Durg Trek begins at the parking lot within Thakurwadi village. Ask the village residents for help in guiding you to the trailhead for Kalavantin Durg. There is a small fee at the gate in order to fund maintenance of the region. The first part of the trek involves walking through muddy roads and past small dwellings that give glimpses of the life in rural areas in Maharashtra.

After about 10 minutes of the trek, the terrain gradually slopes upwards and offers a gentle slope. When you climb, you will see the views of rolling hills picturesque villages, and beautiful fields. Enjoy the view while you travel along the route. When the time comes to follow the monsoon season, hillsides can be seen bursting with waterfalls that create a breathtaking scene.

After walking for about 1.5 hours on this trail it will lead you to the huge Prabalmachi plateau. The area is massive covered in grass, and is devoid of trees. From here there are two distinct routes: one which leads to Prabalgad (which is able to also be combined with the path towards Kalavantin Durg if desired) and the other that will take you up to Kalavantin Durg. Kalavantin is the mountain with its prominent summit, while Prabalgad boasts a plateau-like mountain top. The trail is on the left side, and it will take the way to Kalavantin.

As you progress it becomes saturated and covered with stones. While you progress through the valley, you'll find yourself surrounded by lush vegetation and the gentle sounds of many falling waterfalls on the nearby slopes. The views get more stunning each time you get closer to the top. Follow the path on your left for about a half hour of walking to the Col. Prepare yourself for an uphill climb that is difficult, since the path towards the Col is rocky and has many steep inclines and drops.

The short climb to the Col is followed by a flight of narrow and sloping stones that require extreme concentration and care to walk securely. Any mistake you make could lead to grave consequences, so take your time and be cautious. Ascending these steps generally takes between 30 and 60 minutes. After that, you'll be on the last leg of your trip.

The climb to the top of Kalavantin requires a strenuous climb up a 15-foot granite face that is devoid of any assistance structures. The climb could pose serious risk, which is why you must carry and use your own climbing rope to go climbing. If you're not experienced using ropes or climbing techniques We recommend against climbing. The views are similar regardless of whether you view them from the top or from the base of the rock. Admire the magnificence of the lush landscape from this point of view before you begin the downward descent.

Remember that the path is small and can be very busy during the time between the beginning and end of the monsoon time, when thousands of people try to make it to the top. We recommend avoiding the peak season and go for the post-monsoon season and on weekdays to enjoy a more pleasant walking experience.

The ascent should keep their eyes forward and avoid all backward gazes which could cause anxiety.

It is a challenge to climb the final 15 feet of rock to the top is a difficult task that will require ropes and an understanding of the climbing method. The recommendation is to steer clear of inexperienced climbers do not attempt this challenge.

Because of its proximity near Mumbai, it is a popular trail that draws large numbers of people from the city of Mumbai and the nearby congested paths. The stairs cut into rock are particularly dangerous for climbers when huge groups have been gathered, so it's important to schedule visits in advance. In order to reduce the chance of overcrowding, you're advised to stay clear of monsoon time and on weekends.
