George Everest Peak is located near Mussoorie and leads you uphill on its road towards an old residence that belonged to Sir George Everest trek during British colonial rule in India, who served as Surveyor General of India under British Rule. Although currently disrepair, this historical home still provides invaluable data regarding surveys and mapping in the Himalayan region. The trail
The George Everest Peak Trail starts from the Library Bus Stand in Mussoorie, those traveling in their own vehicle may opt to begin at Hathipaon Chowk instead, cutting four kilometers off of the trek distance but offering breathtaking landscapes along the way.
Library Bus Stand This Bus Stand can be found near the old Mussoorie Library that has existed for more than two decades! From there, follow Spring Road past Pine Tree Apartments and Ashok Guest House before turning left at Ashok Guest House and continuing strolling for approximately 1 km until reaching a crossroads that offers right-hand turns - at these crossroads turn right, otherwise continue strolling until arriving at Hathipaon Chowk where your journey should end.
As soon as the forest and wild regions come into focus, the scenery takes on an astounding transformation. A tall Deod will surround you, along with various coniferous trees. Be mindful to observe birds while in this zone.
Hathipaon offers visitors to George Everest trail the starting location marked with a signboard. From there it leads downhill through Rhododendron and Fir forests until reaching a clearing. From here commences George Everest's ascent up Mount Everest summit.
A visit to Sir George Everest's former residence is an easy climb that begins in open spaces. You'll easily recognize its route paved with stones and railing, lined with lush vegetation and boasting the sounds of birds singing in the distance. After approximately 1km walk you'll reach Sir George Everest's old house which has now been turned into a museum dedicated to cartography.
Near the house lies a vast field that serves as an area for setting up camps. You'll often spot Himalayan Griffons gliding overhead as you move across it. To ease climb from camp to George Everest Peak is steep; to aid your journey there have been constructed steps which provide support along the route and offer spectacular panoramic views of mountains nearby as you ascend them, giving a hint of what lies ahead in terms of beauty.
At the end of the route is an unstable rock surface which could become hazardous. Navigating this section could prove challenging. Please take extra care and make sure that your footing is secure before continuing.
View from summit
From the summit you can admire breathtaking views of both the Himalayans and valleys below, decorated with prayer flags to give a sense of hope and faith as you gaze upon their magnificent mountains. Relax or indulge in a delicious picnic before returning back down the well-known trail leading back towards Hathipaon Chowk.
At George Everest's summit, one can enjoy stunning vistas that will leave them stunned for days afterward. Best time
George Everest Peak Trek can only be attempted between September and November and March through May due to extreme snowfall and rainfall respectively. This trail cannot be used during other times due to access restrictions due to extreme snowfall or rainfall.
Mussoorie is easily accessible from Dehradun by both car and public transportation, taking approximately 35 kilometers and 1.5 minutes respectively.
Dehradun and Mussoorie are regularly serviced by shared taxis and buses departing from Dehradun's main bus station, providing regular connections.
Hathipaon Chowk can be easily reached from Mussoorie by taxi driver, though you could also walk or take public transit to get there. The Chowk is just 4 km away and easily reached via its Library Bus Stand or walk there via a pedestrian bridge.
